Obama Speech Phony And Unapologetic
Just Say No To Obama
On Tuesday, March 18, 2008,
In the eye of this storm, it is only too ironic and not perplexing that Rev. Wright has fled the country - avoiding media scrutiny - by coincidentally taking a trip to Africa. What's the matter, Rev., afraid of being scrutinized now, when in the past you've basked in the limelight?
Everyone is writing about this speech so I will try to keep this as short as possible.
What stands out the most - I think - in his speech is the following, when Obama compares Wright's statements to something said by his grandmother:
"I can no more disown him than I can my white grandmother – a woman who helped raise me, a woman who sacrificed again and again for me, a woman who loves me as much as she loves anything in this world, but a woman who once confessed her fear of black men who passed by her on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe."
Is there anything really that wrong with what his grandmother said, when in 1993, Rev. Jesse Jackson said basically THE SAME THING? The Atlantic:
"There is nothing more painful to me at this stage in my life than to walk down the street and hear footsteps and start thinking about robbery -- then look around and see somebody white and feel relieved."
In an interview with ABC News [on July 11, 2007] Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., called for the firing of talk radio host Don Imus. Obama said he would never again appear on Imus' show, which is broadcast on CBS Radio and MSNBC television.
"I understand MSNBC has suspended Mr. Imus," Obama told ABC News, "but I would also say that there's nobody on my staff who would still be working for me if they made a comment like that about anybody of any ethnic group. And I would hope that NBC ends up having that same attitude."
[...]
"[Imus] didn't just cross the line," Obama said. "He fed into some of the worst stereotypes that my two young daughters are having to deal with today in America."
It apparently is okay with Obama for his daughter's to hear sermons in church about how evil America is and how America created the AIDS virus in order to kill black people. But it's not okay for his daughters to be exposed to Don Imus' words?
Wright's sermons that we've heard over the past week are incendiary, racist, anti-American, divisive, race-baiting and exploitative. Yet not until the Media focused in on this issue did Obama "cringe" in reaction to anything preached by Wright. Obama's posing on this is as phony as can be.
This issue is not about free speech. It's not about Wright's words. He's entitled to preach hatred and racism and anti-Americanism under the First Amendment.
This issue is about Obama tacitly or explicitly approving and agreeing with Wright's message and then feigning otherwise when pressed and questioned on it. This issue is about Obama's claim to be "unfamiliar" with some of Wright's sermons when we know he was fully aware of them. This issue is about a desperate spin by Obama to keep from sinking further in the polls. None of Obama's spin will help him. His presidential campaign - at least for 2008 - is done. Stick a fork in it.
Obama waited too long in denouncing and condemning Wright's sermons.
Why didn't Obama take questions from the press after his speech?
Does Obama believe that the U.S. is really, as Wright stated, "the U.S. of KKK A"?
Obama is disingenuous.
Columnist Richard Cohen - a true "Liberals' Liberal", a guy who is to the Left of the DailyKooksKrowd - in a column at the Washington Post, asks:
Why did Barack Obama take so long to "reject outright" the harshly critical statements about America made by his minister, Jeremiah Wright, not to mention the praise the same minister lavished on Louis Farrakhan just last November?
How is it possible that Obama did not know about these remarks, when he is a member of Wright's congregation and so close to the man that he likens him to "an old uncle"?
In his Tuesday speech, Obama offered no apology, no admission of a lapse of judgment, no admission of regret or remorse and said nothing of being disappointed with Wright's sermons. The only conclusion to draw is that for 20 years Obama supported and believed in the sermons and messages he heard from Rev. Wright. It is when the content and the context of these sermons were exposed by the media that Obama became concerned and tried to cosmetically pretend to disagree with Wright's sermons and words. This, my friends, is called "posturing".
The issue of Obama and Wright is not going away anytime soon, nor should it.
Good thing Obama isn't a Mormon. If he was, he would have long ago joined Joe Biden, Chris Dodd, Mike Gravel and other losing Democrat presidential contenders, joining them on the sideline.
