Global Warming: Panicus Reducticus?

On November 13, 2007, NASA issued a press release stating the following:

A team of NASA and university scientists has detected an ongoing reversal in Arctic Ocean circulation triggered by atmospheric circulation changes that vary on decade-long time scales. The results suggest not all the large changes seen in Arctic climate in recent years are a result of long-term trends associated with global warming.

    [...]

They measured changes in the weight of columns of Arctic Ocean water, from the surface to the ocean bottom. That weight is influenced by factors such as the height of the ocean's surface, and its salinity. A saltier ocean is heavier and circulates differently than one with less salt.

    [...]

...the authors attribute the reversal to a weakened Arctic Oscillation, a major atmospheric circulation pattern in the northern hemisphere. The weakening reduced the salinity of the upper ocean near the North Pole, decreasing its weight and changing its circulation.

"Our study confirms many changes seen in upper Arctic Ocean circulation in the 1990s were mostly decadal in nature, rather than trends caused by global warming," said [James Morison of the University of Washington's Polar Science Center Applied Physics Laboratory who led the study].

"While some 1990s climate trends, such as declines in Arctic sea ice extent, have continued, these results suggest at least for the 'wet' part of the Arctic -- the Arctic Ocean -- circulation reverted to conditions like those prevalent before the 1990s," he added.

GASP! You mean...man-made global warming isn't a culprit here? Uh-oh, NASA better watch out so that they're not subject to the Global Warming Wrath of Al Gore, Junior, the CEO of Global Warming Panic, Incorporated.

From The Register:

Recent dramatic changes in the Arctic climate - melting sea ice, warmer ocean, green fields in place of icy wilderness, etc - might not all be directly related to global warming.

The more clement Arctic climate of recent years could have been triggered by shorter term circulation changes in the oceans and atmosphere.

It looks like the switching of these ocean currents appears to be part of a natural cycle. Oh.My.God! Who'da thunk that? A natural cycle occurring on the planet? Why, I thought we were trying our damnedest to kill evil Mother Earth. Now it appears, not so much...not so much.

Of course the global warming Alarmists will still blame you for driving an SUV or a truck while they hop into their Gulfstreams and private jets to be whisked away from one panic conference after the other, pontificating on how humans are ruining the planet and how we only have 10, or 9, or 8, or 3 years "to do something" about it. They do this because they are the modern day equivalent of snake-oil salesman. It's a good gig, they make big bucks from it. They don't want anyone shooting holes in what they so desperately want to believe.

What a bunch of hogwash. Drive your SUVs, turn on those incandescent lights, fire up the grill, power up those coal burning factories, drill for oil and natural gas and tell the alarmists to shut up.

One or two hundred years from now someone will update "Popular Delusions And The Madness of Crowds" and no doubt the current group of Alarmists who blame temperature change on humans will be included as a bunch of lunatics who had a theory based on nothing but unproven data.

"Popular Delusions" is available to read online HERE . Check it out and read about how tulipo-mania overcame greater parts of Europe as a monetary exchange. Or how Magnetisers (
magnets) were once believed to be the panacea for anything that ails you.

The stories all have an uncanny correlation to what the Alarmists call "man-made global warming." They are delusional.

One quote from "Popular Delusions" that I like is: "Of all the offspring of Time, Error is the most ancient, and is so old and familiar an acquaintance, that Truth, when discovered, comes upon most of us like an intruder, and meets the intruder's welcome."

Or, the line often attributed to P.T. Barnum that was actually said by David Hannum: "There's a sucker born every minute."

Albert Gore, Junior is a global warming huckster and a charlatan. Those who believe him are suckers. His crusade will be in a future edition of "Popular Delusions".

you know...george w bush has already stated himself that humans are contributing to global warming...he's done zilch about it, but he has finally admitted that we are contributing. perhaps the new talking points paper hasn't reached everybody yet.

i only spent 900 plus hours studying actual raw data, actually from our own government, so what do i know? nothing i guess i couldn't get from an article or two.

some people cannot let go of anything. ever. yet another reason why i quit lpli.

it's useless if in fact not really desirable to try and save humans. earthworms are far more deserving.

thank god i quit. do be sure to take bottled water on your atlanta trips and watch out for tornadoes in nyc.

So, suddenly you're quoting Bush the Liar who lied to us so we could "occupy" Iraq? Will the real Rev. Gisher please step forward ?!?

I don't know anything about an "article or two", but one of sources here is NASA correcting themselves on what they previously claimed was happening to man-made global warming.

I have no immediate plans to visit Atlanta or NYC.

The temperature of the earth changes from year to year, decade to decade, century to century. Man is not making this happen.

No counter comments from you arguing now, because I am not running a debate forum here. *wink wink, nudge nudge*

Read "Popular Delusions" if you have not. Someday Al Gore and the enviro-weenies will be a chapter in a future edition of that book.
