Veterans Day

Animated U.S. Flag via 3D Flags

November 11, 2008; Veterans Day

The History of Veterans Day.

The below was written by Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC:

"It's the soldier, not the reporter who has given us
    Freedom of the Press.
It's the soldier, not the poet, who has given us
    Freedom of Speech.
It's the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the
    Freedom to Demonstrate.
It's the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the
    Right to a Fair Trial.
It's the soldier who salutes the flag, serves under the flag and
whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who gives the protestor the right to burn the flag."

Things you can do to make a difference:

Through the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Operation UpLink provides FREE, PRE-PAID phone cards to the fine Men and Women in the U.S. Military so that they can call home.

You can make a donation of any amount that will go towards the purchase of a Free, Pre-Paid phone card.

AnySoldier.com lists item needed by Men and Women in the Military. Some items you may already have in your home - pens, writing tablets, Beanie Babies (yep!) hygiene items - read through the many items listed at the link. It doesn't have to be a financial donation if you're unable to afford it; send a letter, a card, a picture your child drew.

AnySolider.com also will accept any amount of donation that will be well-spent on the Men and Women of the Military.

Make A Donation to the Disabled American Veterans.

If money is tight, spend a few minutes of time by sending a supportive message to our Military via Operation Dear Abby. Click on the words "Send Message" on the left side of the screen.

Thank the Veterans you encounter, not only today, but every day - thank them for their service to our country.
