What is new about [the attack on] Mumbai, November 2008?
The obvious novelty is the use of frontal assault tactics instead of timed explosive devices.
This is new in the urban Indian context. There was one notable exception - an attack by a five-man squad armed with rifles and grenades on India's Parliament in New Delhi in December 2001.
The attackers were narrowly prevented by alert staff from gaining access to the building, where hundreds of parliamentarians and ministers were attending a session.
They were gunned down near the entrance by security personnel after an hour-long battle.
Nine guards and parliament stewards also died.
This attack led to the crisis of 2002 between India and Pakistan.
Fidayeen technique
Scores of such attacks were carried out by "fidayeen" (literally "death-defying") squads in Indian-administered Kashmir during that period.

...some attacks targeted civilians, especially in and around the Hindu-majority city of Jammu, in the southern part of Indian-administered Kashmir.
The perpetrators were not members of the main homegrown Kashmiri insurgent group, the Hizb-ul Mujahideen ("Warriors of the Faith").
The fidayeen technique - a rudimentary form of "shock and awe" warfare - was introduced into Kashmir by Pakistani radical organisations that entered the Kashmir insurgency from the mid-1990s onwards.

The gunmen who attacked two luxury hotels, and a fashionable cafe frequented by visiting Westerners, have brought the "war" - as they see it - to India's elite class, and to affluent Westerners living in or visiting India's most cosmopolitan city.
If reports that the gunmen specifically looked for American and British citizens to take hostage are true, it would suggest that this terrorist spectacular had little to do with the prejudice and discrimination many Muslims do encounter in India.
Wal-Mart after worker trampled to death. NY Daily News:
The Long Island Wal-Mart store where a worker died after being trampled by Black Friday shoppers opened Saturday morning with beefed-up security and calmer, somber crowds.
About 100 people waited patiently in line for the doors to open at 7 a.m. and entered the Long Island outlet without any of the mayhem that sparked tragedy a day earlier.
Have stores gone too far in trying to convince shoppers to arrive in throngs in early morning hours the day after Thanksgiving?
For example, the Long Island store where Jdimytai Damour was trampled to death promoted a "blitz" line for shoppers, borrowing from the football terminology for a defensive rush at the - - - quarterback.
Global response to terrorism, says Italy's Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini. Life In Italy:
"Westerners cannot consider ourselves out of danger. We need to do more and do it together,"` the minister said.
Terrorism, Frattini observed, ``is still very strong. Unfortunately, we can expect it to flare up again, as is occurring in various parts of the world, starting with Iraq and Afghanistan``.
``Evidence gathered gives us great concern for Afghanistan, especially in the area which borders Pakistan,`` he added.
Tainted blow in Canada. CBC:
"We are advising anyone who develops a fever or other signs of infection and has used cocaine to seek medical attention quickly," Dr. Gerry Predy, Alberta's Acting Chief Medical Officer of Health, said in a news release.
"Any skin abscess or lung infection that develops rapidly should also be treated immediately."
Officials have linked the cases to cocaine laced with levamisole, a chemical compound developed to treat intestinal worms in humans and animals.
Disney corrupts the minds of the young, say Catholic clerics. Telegraph:
Said Christopher Jamison, the Abbot of Worth in West Sussex:
"The message behind every movie and book, behind every theme park and T-shirt is that our children's world needs Disney," he says.
"So they absolutely must go to see the next Disney movie, which we'll also want to give them on DVD as a birthday present.
"They will be happier if they live the full Disney experience; and thousands of families around the world buy into this deeper message as they flock to Disneyland."

People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals, aka PETA, would have preferred that we all ate tofu instead of turkey. Casper Star Trib:
"[Tofu is] soy-based with all natural ingredients," [said Colleen Higgins, a spokeswoman for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.]
People are shocked when they find out how turkeys are treated, Higgins said, and most people like Tofurky.
"I don't think it tastes like turkey," said Peter Wold, who was walking down Second Street. "Honestly, I think it tastes like cardboard."

They are true, according to the confession from the one terrorist taken alive. The other part of the confession said that they specifically targeted Jews. Interestingly enough most other bloggers noted that. I am sure this blog did not mention Jews because of a mere oversight. Isn't it so Mr. Drake?!?!?

The BBC story I linked to and quote (reproduce) in the post didn't mention that Jews were targeted in Mumbai.
I may be wrong, but it does occur to me you may be posting as someone from the Freedom blog attempting to incite some type of argument. I LINK to you, Freedom and you LINK to me. This is why I wonder if someone is using your url. I would hope the real Freedom knows I would not intentionally omit an agressive act like those in Mumbai that including targeting of Jews.
I didn't mention the targeted Jews because the BBC story didn't mention it and at the time I didn't know at the time that they were targeted as well as American and British citizens.
To imply anything less that I have not fully supported any of America's allies, including Israel, to always defend themselves against terrorism, terrorist attacks, threats of terrorism, a pre-emptive strike policy based on that country's intel, is grossly inaccurate. To imply that I would deliberately omit terrorist acts by radical Muslim aimed and targeted towards Jews for some unknown reason - which you do not mention - is simply absurd.
