Obama Charitable Giving: Cheapness Take 2
One item that I didn't have time to mention - and this appears in the New York Times story - is that Obama tried to pass off a $13,000 donation to the Congressional Black Caucus as a CHARITABLE DONATION!
From the NYT story:
The 2006 return also show a charitable deduction for a $13,000 donation to the Congressional Black Caucus. It is illegal to deduct political contributions as charitable contributions. The campaign said Mr. Obama had filed an amended return to eliminate that item as a deduction.
We shouldn't be surprised, though. Obama - I mean, Ted Kennedy's Poodle - is just as cheap when it comes to charities as was Albert Gore, Junior. In 1998, Gore's tax records reflected his contempt for giving to charities. CNN:
In a 34-page 1997 federal tax return, Vice President Al Gore and wife Tipper reported giving $353 to charity, an amount much lower than donations the family has made in previous tax cycles.
That figure is less than one-tenth the typical contribution amount for someone with the Gores' adjusted gross income of $197,729. That fact has caused some bewilderment in philanthropic circles because of the vice president's "good guy" image as an advocate for public service and social causes, the Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday.
