Veterans Day

The following was written by Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC:

"It's the soldier, not the reporter who has given us
    Freedom of the Press.
It's the soldier, not the poet, who has given us
    Freedom of Speech.
It's the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the
    Freedom to Demonstrate.
It's the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the
    Right to a Fair Trial.
It's the soldier who salutes the flag, serves under the flag and
whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who gives the protestor the right to burn the flag."

Thank you, Veterans - for everything you have done.

I know you do not think of yourselves - or like to be called - Heroes; but you are, you are so very much.

God Bless you and your families.

Things you can do:

Through the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Operation UpLink provides FREE, PRE-PAID phone cards to the fine Men and Women in the U.S. Military so that they can call home.

You can make a donation of any amount that will go towards the purchase of a Free, Pre-Paid phone card.

AnySoldier.com lists item needed by Men and Women in the Military. Some items you may already have in your home - pens, writing tablets, Beanie Babies (yep!) hygiene items - read through the many items listed at the link. It doesn't have to be a financial donation if you're unable to afford it;
send a letter, a card, a picture your child drew.

AnySolider.com also will accept any amount of donation that will be well-spent on the Men and Women of the Military.

Make A Donation to the Disabled American Veterans.

If money is tight, spend a few minutes of time by sending a supportive message to our Military via Operation Dear Abby.

Thank the Veterans you encounter, not only today, but every day - thank them for their service to our country.

Comments:
Thanks for the links DD and the simple reminder that freedom isn't free. You made it easy. I sent my donation to Operation Uplink. It is so easy to do and there is nothing like being able to call home when you are stuck somewhere so far away like so many service men and women are right now.

Bless you for doing so. And even for those who may not be able to afford a financial donation, a letter, an email, something they already have - pens, paper, etc - it means so much.

I agree the phone cards have to be one of the most precious items for the Men and Women in the Military to receive.
