Hollywood: Out To Make a Profit?

Filmmaker Spike Lee, best known for his films that portray Italians in negative and unflattering stereotypes, said "[Hollywood] will make movies with Denzel Washington, Jamie Fox, and Eddie Murphy, but only because they can make some money off them."

Whoa...whoa...whoa...whoa.....you mean, Spike, that Hollywood makes movies with the intent or hope that it will...make...a...profit? You mean the film business is like any other business, say, like General Motors, or Coca-Cola, or Widgets-R-Us?

Or...Or NIKE
? GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-SP!

Another one of my dreams shattered. Why, I thought Hollywood made movies with total disregard for profit and focused only on artistic and creative merit. Silly me.
