Pawlenty Per Mile Tax

And many Conservatives and Republicans wonder why I didn't vote to re-elect Minnesota's RINO Governor Tim Pawlenty in his 2006 re-election to a second term.

Pawlenty wants to "test" a mileage tax. MPR:

State officials say Minnesota is working on a pilot program to test the idea of charging drivers for each mile they drive. Other states around the country are considering a vehicle mileage tax, as revenues from the gas tax are expected to decline.

    [...]

But as cars and trucks get better mileage, the gas tax isn't keeping pace with the need for roads and road work. So another option is gaining traction in Minnesota -- a high-tech mileage-based user fee.

"We realize that in the future, cars aren't going to be powered by fuel, probably," said Gov. Tim Pawlenty, who signed into law $5 million for the current biennium to study the mileage tax.

    [...]

"They're going to be powered by different things, perhaps including hydrogen fuel cells, potentially plug-in electrics, potentially other sources of energy," Pawlenty said. "So we need to think about how we're going to pay for transportation down the road."

I don't care what fuel powers my vehicle, we should not, in any way, be taxed per mile. No one should. If you want to discuss taxing or increasing the fuel - that's a different story - fine, we can. But taxing per mile is Orwellian.

Part of the problem is that the gas tax is siphoned off for mass transportation which, obviously, takes money away from upkeep of the roads and highways.

Hey. I have idea. Why not levy a special tax on those who drive non-oil based vehicles? They're the ones skating by without contributing their fair share. They're using the highways and roads but not paying a gasoline tax. Tax them. Tax them a lot! It's their fault. My suggestion simply LEVELS THE PLAYING FIELD.

As critical as I am of the ACLU on this blog, I would hope they see the liberties involved in installing a GPS into our cars that tracks our mileage. And if it's a GPS device, the government is going to know where we go, when we go there and how much time we spend doing whatever we do.

No. Tax per mile must never come to pass.

Contact Gov. Pawlenty, and contact him often, and let him know you're against this:

I like the driving tax a whole bunch. I think that it should be one million dollars per foot. As long as we are operating completely in FUCKING Moronland, just go for the whole thing. Hell a billion dollars a foot.

I am not going to pay it anyway. They would simply have to arrest me to get that money. Then force me to work in their labor camps. I refuse to pay any more.

Just one little question, where are the spending cuts? You can increase revenue or cut spending or a combination of both. Where are the spending cuts? FUCKTARDS.

I'd like to ideally refuse to pay a mileage tax, but you know they'd get it from you one way or the other, thru a tax refund capture, or a lien on your property or car...somehow, they'd collect it even if they had to wait for you to die and go after your estate.

Tax Cuts? In Minnesota? Oh, no, the ruling liberal elites are talking about raising taxes and removing the property tax cap. The school...they must be broken and out of money. Lil Sally and Johnny ain't got no books or test tubes. But they have a fine pacifistic attitude toward criminals, sexual pervert and 'dem "peaceful" Mooslims, oh yeah, you betcha.

This state is fucked. Is yours anyway better? Should I consider relocating there?

Better in the fact that we don't get four hundred feet of snow yearly, but Mississippi has always been Democrat. Still is.

David, your head would explode if you saw some of the shit that happens here.

Yeah, but you have things swimming in your lakes and water reserves that will kill ya or at least eat an arm or leg off ya! ;-)

My head has exploded so many times over the past 12 months I don't think there's any explosivity remaining in it.

if they really want to cut, they should pay there own gas instead of us paying their gas bill, take a pay cut salary instead of always giving themselfs a salary incrises and take a cut on governer retire programs.time for a chage u flippin flappers!!!

My dad pointed out something this weekend; Rebooblicans are no longer having a conversation about smaller government or limmited government, they are now talking about managing a bigger one.
WTF is conservative about that? The entire idea with conservatism is that people should manage the government, not the other way around.
