Judd Gregg Withdraws Name
For Commerce Secretary

Judd Gregg - what a great name, btw, I can't help but think of "Judge Dredd," when I see it - is walking away from the job at Commerce. APee via Yahoo:

Republican Sen. Judd Gregg of New Hampshire abruptly withdrew his nomination as Commerce secretary Thursday, the third Cabinet-level pick scuttled and the latest political stumbling block in Barack Obama's young presidency. "I said yes. That was my mistake," Gregg told reporters at a Capitol Hill news conference. He said he'd always been a strong fiscal conservative. "It really wasn't a good pick."

The about-face left Obama without a full team to lead the government.

    [...]

Gregg gave Obama credit for reaching out to him. But, he cited "irresolvable conflicts" with Obama's handling of the economic stimulus and 2010 census.

That's all probably the better for Gregg.

Gregg is much smarter than I orignially thought! After this whole stimulus thing turns to shit, he wants to be off obama's bus and far far away when they drive pass that grassy noll......

He didn't want to be a token, and with the moving of the census to the white house that was all he was gonna be

Theo, yeah, he's better spending his time in the Senate. I don;t know much about him, but he is fiscally conservative and against the stimupork, so that's good. I think he can do better for Conservatism staying in the Seante than moving into the Commerce Dept.

lmee,

I agree with you totally. It's a free country.

Until Pbama and the Libs take it away form those that disagree with them.

Arc,

The whole census thing. WTF? Pbama wants to control the Census now? He's mad. He's Hitler mad, ala 1929-early 30s with much of the world thinking, "Hitler, oh, he's not a threat, he's not that bad." Sound familiar?

Imee said...

i think gregg was only standing by his beliefs. i do support obama, but i also respect the decisions of those who do or don't support him. it is, after all, a free country.

Hey Dave, I think the real reason the Gregg "stepped down" was that obama had him in that position to look bisexual...ooppss....I mean "bipartisan." (I keep getting my "bi's" mixed up with this administration) However when obama found out the census was coming up and that they Sec of Commerce is in charge of it and that he is a Republican, he moved the census under the control of his Chief of Staff so the Dems would have complete control of congressional re-districting and not lose but gain more power. As I recall this completely violates the Constitution as it is the job of the Commerce Department to do the census. Do you remember how the libs screamed bloody murder and all had their periods at the same time when George Bush went to the Office of Legal Council to grant him additional powers during the terror crisis? At least he used constitutional protocol. These assholes are pretty silent now as obama power grabs and tries to alter the face of the political landscpae here forever. You need to do a piece on this.

That's an excellent point. The whole census control thing blows my mind. "1984".
