Kung Pow Meow! Cat On Menu In Peru!

One Kung Pow Meow, please. No MSG.

Cats, as food, are on the menu in Peru. The Sun:

ANIMAL rights groups are up in arms over an annual festival in Peru that serves up hundreds of fried CATS to locals.

The 'Gastronomical Festival of the Cat' – dubbed the 'Massacre of the Moggies' – sees townsfolk in Canete, near Lima, feast on the fluffy pets for two days.

They believe that eating cat burgers – and fried cat legs and tails – can cure bronchial disease.

It is also believed that feline meat serves as an aphrodisiac.

The cats are bred especially for this.

Environmental Graffiti notes the following. (Warning: Link shows what apparently is - uh - cat meat being cooked in pots and pans):

Every September, people from around the country flock to the small farming town of La Quebrada to celebrate the festival of Saint Efigenia. During the festival, the small African descendant minority in Peru celebrate their unique forms of art, dancing, music, and, of course, cat cooking techniques.

    [...]

"I think it’s great that people have made the effort to dance, sing, eat a little cat,” said Roberto, 17[.]

    [...]

Cat became a regular menu item to the black population of Peru when they were forced to scrape whatever food they could from the plantations they labored on.

The fricassee was a little lacking last year as only a minuscule 100 cats were caught due to protests by local animal rights activists.

Does one take home leftovers in a doggie-bag? A kitty-bag?
