In the Pittsburgh Tribune Review, Obama tries to soft-peddle the hatred and bigotry preached by Rev. Reich:

Q: I don't know if you've seen it, but it's all over the wire today (from an ABC News story), a statement that your pastor (the Rev. Jeremiah Wright of Trinity United Church of Christ on Chicago's South Side) made in a sermon in 2003 that instead of singing "God Bless America," black people should sing a song essentially saying "God Damn America."
A: I haven't seen the line. This is a pastor who is on the brink of retirement who in the past has made some controversial statements. I profoundly disagree with some of these statements.
Q: What about this particular statement?
A: Obviously, I disagree with that. Here is what happens when you just cherry-pick statements from a guy who had a 40-year career as a pastor. There are times when people say things that are just wrong. But I think it's important to judge me on what I've said in the past and what I believe.
The biggest problem with The Poodle's remarks are that none of Reich's statements were cherry-picked. What we have heard over the past few days in Reich's - if you want to call them - sermons - is no one-time lapse of judgement. Reich's sermons are all full and rich and plentiful about hating whitey, hating the Jews and Israel and hating America. Are these the kind of sermons that young and impressionable children should hear? What difference is there between sermons preached by Reich and terrorists indoctrinating and training children to become suicide/homicide bombers? Each group of children is taught to hate at a young age. Reich perpetuates racism, keeping it alive and healthy on a respirator.
Go to a search engine and research for yourself how black owners sold black slaves. Blacks sold other blacks into slavery in Africa as well as exporting them to other countries. Yes, some say slaves in Africa may (key word "may") have had modestly better conditions in Africa than they did in Europe or in America - but they were still slaves. Europeans and Arab owners also sold and traded in black slavery. Slavery was in no way something used exclusively or solely exploited by white men.
Pastor Reich is a hatemonger and race baiter. Through his own words he makes it perfectly clear that he hates his own country. Rather than moving forward and making progress for the Black community, it appears Reich works very hard continuing racism and maintaining the color division while periodically injecting anti-Semitism into his sermons.
Here's a newsflash for all the Obama supporters: if it's okay to vote for Obama for no other reason than because he's black, then it is equally okay to not vote for him because of no other reason than he IS black. And doing so, of course, would not make one racist or bigoted. The Liberals would ideally love to have it both ways, but they can't. Therein lies the perpetual cognitive dissonance of the Liberal Mind.
It is some slight conciliation that Reich notes that the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki as one of the reasons for his "damning America". ABC News:
[Wright] said in a 2003 sermon. "God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme."

In addition to damning America, he told his congregation on the Sunday after Sept. 11, 2001 that the United States had brought on al Qaeda's attacks because of its own terrorism.
"We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye," Rev. Wright said in a sermon on Sept. 16, 2001.
It's good that Pastor Reich includes in his hate speech the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, since those two historic incidents were at the sole and specific behest of President Harry Truman, a Democrat and a racist:
"I think one man is just as good as another so long as he's not a nigger or a Chinaman. Uncle Will says that the Lord made a White man from dust, a nigger from mud, then He threw up what was left and it came down a Chinaman. He does hate Chinese and Japs. So do I. It is race prejudice, I guess. But I am strongly of the opinion Negroes ought to be in Africa, Yellow men in Asia and White men in Europe and America."

[In] a letter home to his daughter about dining at the White House when he was a U.S. senator, [Truman] described the waiters, who he thought were “evidently the top of the black social set in Washington,” as “an army of coons,” and in a letter to his wife in 1939, he referred to “nigger picnic day.”

I have my problems with McCain. A lot of them. I have to be a realist though, and I know that he would be better than either the Pood or MrsSatan. I'm working on trying to come around and support McCain. Denny is a great blogger and had made some fine arguments that are starting to convince me that even though many of us would have preferred Romney, or Fred, or Rudy - that we have to come around and give our support to McCain. Check out Denny's blog. He's a great guy and fine writer.

I am slowly trying to motivate myself to come to terms in supporting McCain. I think - I hope - to be there by November.
