Bob Clark Update: Killed By
Drunk Driving Illegal Immigrant

Film director Bob Clark and his 22-year old son were killed by a drunk driver this past Wednesday.

The latest update on the crash is: (bolding mine):

The drunk driver that caused the death of director Bob Clark and his 22 year old son is an illegal living in Los Angeles and is set to be deported back to his native Mexico after charges against him are resolved.

A Mexican national accused of causing the crash that killed "A Christmas Story" director Bob Clark and his son will face deportation proceedings once the charges against him are resolved, officials said Thursday.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement put an immigration hold on Hector Velazquez-Nava, a 24-year-old illegal immigrant living in Los Angeles, said agency spokeswoman Virginia Kice.

The action means Velazquez-Nava will be turned over to U.S. immigration officials and placed in deportation proceedings once his local case is completed. He was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol and gross vehicular manslaughter and was being held on US $100,000 bail in a county jail.

If he posts bail, Velazquez-Nava would be taken into federal custody on the immigration hold, Kice said.

Police say Velazquez-Nava steered his sport utility vehicle into the wrong lane of Pacific Coast Highway in Pacific Palisades early Wednesday, striking Clark's sedan head-on. The filmmaker and his son, Ariel Hanrath-Clark, 22, died at the scene.

Authorities said Velazquez-Nava was driving without a licence. He and his passenger were treated for minor injuries.

Valazquez-Nava is...are you sitting down?....pleading not guilty.

We just had a similar story like the above out of Virginia Beach, where two teen girls we killed by a drunk driving illegal immigrant, who didn't have a valid driver's license - he had a fake one - and who had a fake Mexican ID.

I know, I know....not all immigrants, legal or illegal, drive drunk - I'm not saying or implying that they do. Plenty of U.S. born citizens unfortunately make the choice to get behind the wheel of their car when they've had too much to drink and wind up hurting, maiming or killing another innocent driver.

I'd like to know where the "Tolerance Crowd" - MADD - is on the issue of illegal immigrants who drive drunk and end up killing someone. I did two news searches trying to connect MADD with having some sort of policy or statement on illegal immigrants who drive drunk and found nothing.

I'm guessing - and yes, criticizing - MADD won't touch this issue because of political correctness. MADD doesn't want to get involved in immigration and whether illegal immigrants are killing people while driving drunk. Why, doing so - taking a stand on this - might be too volatile an issue for MADD. Oh, they're loud and vocal when it's any other race, color, ethnicity or citizenship status is found driving drunk, but illegal immigrants? Where are you, MADD...why so deafeningly silent?.

No...MADD is too focused on their goal of criminalizing everyone by pushing for a continued reduction is the BAC (blood alcohol content). The problem with their thinking is that while the cops may nab someone whose BAC is .05 another driver with two times the legal limit drives right on by.

Where are you, MADD, in putting forth an opinion or statement regarding three recent deaths caused by illegal immigrants who were drunk out of their minds while behind the wheel? Too much a political hot potato for you to touch?

How many more people have to die at the hands of a drunk driving illegal immigrant before MADD makes it part of their cause?

Comments:
I supported MADD at one time..but like most such organizations it was taken over by the left wing and now is more concerned with politics than with trying to stop drunk drivers

I agree with you Guy. I certainly don't encourage driving while intoxicated - not by any means. But MADD has marginalized themselves by their actions of just what I wrote...going after and making criminals out of people who have lower Blood Alcohol Content levels instead of concentrating their efforts on stronger laws for people blowing .15 and .18 and .20 BAC's. And as I asked in the post, where is MADD with their formal statement condemning illegal immigrants who are getting behind the wheel with no driver's license or a DL that is forged? They are conspicuously silent.

Thanks for visiting and commenting (I know you're not too fond of the SPAM protection of having to type in a code) so I really appreciate it.

Happy Easter to you and yours.

I feel that MADD is more concerned with making money than actually deterring drunk drivers. This organization has programs for the schools, but you have to pay for it!

As for the illegal immigration issue, well, it's a challenging scenario and needs just as much attention... It's up to us to challenge others to think more about it.

I suppose there are time when MADD would seek to be paid for certain types of presentations at schools...I'm not sure that disqualifies their message. IT DOES point to some degree of putting money before message - unless, and there may be larger scale "things" MADD does that would require a fee - along with a financial motiviation I think their other agenda is moving to "no tolerance" level at all.

Pushing for required ALL CARS at some point in the future ALL be equipped with devices that require the operator to "blow" a clean breath before the ignition can be started seems a little far-fetched and absurd.

Good point on the illegal immigration issue and DUI relationship. Dying via a DUI has no prejudice, knows no race. It affects everyone. Recently we've seen death caused by - if for lack of a better word - a "profile" of the offenders being illegal immigrants it's not a coincidence, it's a fact. And where is MADD on this aspect? Abset.
