Buzzed Driving and The New Temperance Movement

Make Way: Here comes the Temperance Movement!

Is your state running the "
Buzzed Driving IS Drunk Driving" Public Service Announcements? Minnesota is blanketed in them over and over and over again. And no, I certainly do not advocate driving under the influence. But these PSA's drive home the point that organizations with a lot of political weight (Mothers Against Drunk Driving, et al) behind them are pushing for a brand new temperance movement. And this is the criticism they denied when accused of this by the food, beverage, entertainment and hospitality industries.

I believe (correct me if I'm wrong!) that all states now have .08 Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) as their legal standard for someone operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol. "Oh no", the temperance movement cried, "we have no desire to lower the standard beyond that," when the hospitality industry lobbed charges that the ulterior motive was to usher in a new temperance movement.

Well, have you heard .05 BAC being bandied about as the new standard by the new temperance movement? Because it's being talked about out there, in very hushed and secretive tones.
Of course the new temperance movement will deny this. They will say reducing the BAC level will be one of voluntary compliance by the independent state.

This will be in direct opposition to the Federal Government withholding (i.e. blackmailing) highway funding for any state that elects to not adhere to a new standard of .05 BAC level.

The new temperance movement, in time, will get the establishment of .05 as the "legal limit". Then, they will clamor for .03. After .03 they will clamor for "ZERO TOLERANCE".

Many tobacco users, myself included, saw this coming in the era of Bashing Big Tobacco. We said, "alcohol is next", and it is. The demonization of tobacco took decades. The demonization of alcohol will not take as long, for the standard is established and was established with the precedent of "Big Tobacco".

Big Alcohol is next. Here comes .05 BAC, get ready for it. The New Temperance Movement is afoot. My, oh my, what will Ted Kennedy do? My guess is that he doesn't have to worry about getting behind the wheel anymore. He has a driver. And that's a good thing.

There's a free book online titled Big Brother's New Prohibition. It's a fascinating read.

You'll be amazed at how the public has been brainwashed.
